What is Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapy
Craniosacral Therapy, rooted in Osteopathy, employs a gentle touch to harness the body's innate healing capacities, fostering a profound sense of balance and well-being.
Acknowledging the intrinsic link between mind and body, Craniosacral Therapy works with the subtle rhythmic motions present throughout the body, particularly in the head, spine, and pelvis. These motions, when freely and harmoniously expressed, signify a state of optimal health and vitality.
During a session, clients recline or sit comfortably while the therapist, with a light touch, tunes into these subtle motions, identifying any imbalances and employing a range of non-invasive techniques to induce relaxation and stimulate the body's self-healing mechanisms.
Selecting a practitioner requires careful consideration. It's essential to choose a certified craniosacral therapist who has undergone comprehensive training in both theory and practice. To ensure credibility, you can verify their registration with the Complementary & Natural Healthcare Council (CNHC) through their online register at www.cnhc.org.uk. This guarantees that your chosen therapist is properly trained, qualified, and insured.

To ensure craniosacral therapy is the right fit for you, I offer an initial 10-minute phone consultation - free of charge. During this call, we can discuss your specific concerns, medical history, and what you hope to achieve with treatment. This is a great opportunity for you to ask any questions and for me to explain how craniosacral therapy works and what you can expect. This helps to determine if this approach aligns with your needs and to ensure you feel comfortable and informed before proceeding with a full session.

What does ChatGPT say about Craniosacral Therapy?
Craniosacral Therapy offers a unique perspective on health by working with the body’s subtle intelligence. Modern science increasingly acknowledges how the nervous system and fascia—the connective tissue that weaves through every part of the body—play a central role in physical and emotional well-being. BCST taps into this interconnected system, facilitating profound shifts that clients often experience as "returning to themselves." It’s not just about addressing symptoms but about unlocking the body’s potential for deep, lasting resilience and balance.

Who seeks Craniosacral therapy?
CST supports your body’s innate ability to balance, restore and heal itself as well as helping to reduce stress and build underlying energy. It is suitable for everyone, from newly-born babies to the elderly. I work with clients who come to me with conditions including (but not limited to):
Autoimmune conditions
Long covid and covid related conditions
Anxiety, depression and stress
Tinnitus
Sciatica
Back and neck pain
Scoliosis
Insomnia
Babies - colic/reflux, constipation, torticollis, tongue-tie, irritiability
Difficult birth - mum and baby

It's important to note that Craniosacral Therapy is a complementary therapy and may not be suitable for everyone. Individuals should consult with a qualified healthcare provider to determine if Craniosacral Therapy is appropriate for their specific needs and conditions.
What to expect in a session
"The natural healing force in each one of us is the greatest force in getting well."
-Hippocrates

What happens during Craniosacral treament?
In your first session, we’ll have a detailed and sensitive discussion about your history and the reasons you’re seeking treatment. During the session, you’ll stay fully clothed and typically lie face-up or on your side on a treatment table (you’ll just need to remove your shoes).

Using gentle hands-on contact, I’ll tune into various systems of your body (musculoskeletal, nervous, lymphatic, cardiovascular, fascia) as well as more subtle energetic qualities.

With a clear understanding of anatomy and a careful, non-judgmental approach, we create an opportunity for your body to express its needs. Craniosacral therapists are trained to listen deeply to your body’s health through gentle touch.

There are no manipulations or adjustments, though your body may naturally realign itself. I might ask you to describe any sensations you feel or to focus on specific areas. Some sessions are very quiet, generally feeling relaxing and sometimes experienced as warmth or tingling. Everyone’s experience is unique.

We’ll discuss a treatment plan and how it might benefit you, reviewing it regularly. There’s no set number of sessions; some clients see quick results in a few visits, while chronic issues may require more time.

People usually report feeling lighter, brighter, experiencing less pain, and sleeping better. Sometimes, a deep tiredness or emotional release occurs, especially if you’ve been stressed. We’ll talk about managing these responses and other ways to support your health.

Is it painful?
No, craniosacral therapy is not painful. The touch used during the sessions is very gentle. Most people find the experience to be relaxing and soothing. If you do feel any discomfort, you should let your therapist know right away so adjustments can be made to ensure your comfort.

Any side effects?
Most people experience positive effects from craniosacral therapy, such as feeling lighter, more relaxed, and having less pain or better sleep. However, some individuals might experience temporary side effects, including:
Deep tiredness, especially if you’ve been very stressed.
Emotional release, as stored emotions may surface.
Mild soreness or discomfort as your body adjusts.
These side effects are typically short-lived. We’ll discuss any reactions you may have and ways to manage them, ensuring you have the support you need.

How long are the sessions?
The first session is 90mins to give us time to talk about your background and why you've come to craniosacral. Each following craniosacral therapy session typically lasts about 60 minutes. The exact duration can vary based on your specific needs and the treatment plan we discuss. For babies, sometimes they respond quickly, within 20-30mins, so a session may be 45-60mins total depending.

How do I know if it's suitable for me?
To ensure craniosacral therapy is the right fit for you, I offer an initial 10-minute phone consultation - free of charge. During this call, we can discuss your specific concerns, brief medical history, and what you hope to achieve with treatment. This is a great opportunity for you to ask any questions and for me to explain how craniosacral therapy works and what you can expect. This helps to determine if this approach aligns with your needs and to ensure you feel comfortable and informed before proceeding with a full session.

Pregnancy, Babies & Family
Mothers, Baby, Children & Teenagers
Pregnancy and birth are one of life’s most profound events and craniosacral therapy can offer a little help with easing into family life. For expectant and new mums, craniosacral work can offer support with the changes in the body.
This is a time of rapid change and is ideal for sorting out old aches and pains, as well as preparing the body for birth, as the bones are more flexible, and health is usually at the optimum. Craniosacral therapy can help with:
- preparing for the birth
- post-natal anxiety
- pelvic floor recovery
- Musculoskeletal changes after birth.
Babies' systems are so potent and ready to shift easily back to balance – some just need a little cranio support.

Common reasons for bringing a baby in are:
- Difficult births with prolonged or very fast labour
- Significant bruising around their head after birth
- Sleep and feeding issues
- Colic/reflux
- Constipation
- Baby has a head position preference/torticollis or breastfeeding is painful on one side
- You have been told your baby has a tongue-tie
- Irritability, difficulty settling or cries a lot
- Bonding with parents and siblings
Baby does not have to lie on the treatment couch but can be comfortably treated on Mum’s lap or while nursing. I also encourage partners to come too.
Increasingly children of all ages are suffering from stress, anxiety, and attention difficulties. This seems to be partly from school pressures, but also due to busy lifestyles, as well as things such as environmental toxicity, screen use and electromagnetic fields.
Teenagers can have a really difficult time as their bodies and brains show rapid development towards adulthood, this period of change may add to anxiety, particularly at a time of global uncertainty. Many teens are also undergoing intensive orthodontic treatment. Craniosacral therapy can help the body to integrate these changes gently.

How many sessions do I need and how much is it?
How many treatments might I need?
The number of sessions needed varies from person to person. Some clients respond very quickly and notice improvements within a few sessions. For chronic issues or conditions that have developed over a long period, more sessions might be necessary. We’ll discuss your specific needs and review your progress regularly to determine the best plan for you.

My Story
A Qualified Professional Here to Help You
After spending many years in IT, running my own business and all the stress and strains that involves, I had a bit of a life change. I trained in anatomy and physiology first and then as a practitioner in Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapy (CST). It's not an obvious career path, so what led me to do this?
I came across CST when my wife Rachel became very ill with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). She had been through all the conventional routes with no real lasting success. She found CST through recommendations and I was amazed to see a very positive and rapid improvement and ultimately she went into remission with no more symptoms.
A couple of years later Rachel slipped a disc in her back, very painful, she asked me to take her to her CST therapist. I said no we need to get you to a doctor. But she insisted, and as with most things involving my wife, I sensibly agreed.
I half-carried her into the clinic, she could only just perch on the couch, and I witnessed the practitioner putting hands on. After 20mins she asked Rachel if she could now lie down - she could. After another 20-30mins she said I think you'll be fine now. Rachel got up smiling and walked out like nothing had happened.
I'll admit I had been very sceptical, but I was both very impressed and very intrigued. I asked the therapist what on earth have you just done? She smiled, said "Come and see me and I'll tell you".
I've played a lot of sport in my life and had many injuries. I've had lots of different treatments. When I started receiving CST it was like coming home. All these old aches and pains largely disappeared over the course of sessions and I'm now playing hockey and other sports again! I also realised in this journey that I held a lot of stress from my IT career. And various patterns held from childhood. CST has massively helped all round.

My CST therapist suggested I train in CST as I was very intuitive with it. I gently kept telling her no, I'm running an IT Security business!! But over time as I became more and more intrigued about what this stuff really is, I found myself signing up to a school in London, CTET, highly regarded, and joined with people from around the world to become fully qualified.

I treat all sorts of people, young and old, for all sorts of conditions. Often these people have tried many other conventional routes with mixed success. Sometimes CST becomes their go-to treatment, other times we work alongside other treatments if we think that will improve things more quickly (I have many other therapists in my network). We often see that "casting the net wide" with therapies works really well. CST is gentle yet very potent and so offers a powerful route for self-healing.

We expect our bodies to heal themselves from minor injuries, for example cuts and bruises and even broken bones. We often say “time is a great healer” in relation to other trauma. What if the body, the “system” was able to deeply and naturally heal itself in many areas?

I remain fascinated by the human ability to heal itself and how CST interacts strongly with this complex mechanism we all have in us.

My Credentials
Experience You Can Count On
Diploma in Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapy
This is my core craniosacral training - over 2 years and 11x 4-5day Seminars at a world leading school CTET (www.cranio.co.uk). The diploma consists of over 700 hours of training in London, home study, reading, anatomical drawing, close tutor supervision and working in the school's London clinic in Islington.

The training provides a good balance of theory and practice, with much classroom time dedicated for practical session work. An emphasis is placed on the development of palpatory, perceptual and treatment skills which the student can integrate in a developing process. The learning and integration of skills is based on the student’s own explorations and experience of the work, which is comprehensively supported by supervision and feedback from tutors. Clinical experience is gained during the latter stages of the training at the Trust’s unique teaching clinic in London.
Diploma in Anatomy and Physiology - with Distinction
This is my core anatomy and physiology training that underpins the Craniosacral training. I took this training before the craniosacral practitioner training.
Course description - Throughout the seminars there will be discussion of how the living body expresses health and disease. Anatomical terminology will be taught and some major pathological conditions will be covered. The course describes how body tissues are formed and organised and the way that this determines bodily function. Powerful forces are involved in cell division and organisation from the moment of conception onwards. These intelligent organisational forces not only lie at the heart of our embryological unfolding but continue throughout life guiding the body’s maintenance and repair. Clinical experience shows that if we can relate to the body with an understanding of how it forms we can then contact a deep vitality and intelligence
Working with Pregnancy, Mothers and Babies
This is a 3 day post-grad course that I took, covering all key aspects of working with Pregnancy, Mothers and Babies. Working with Embryonic, Placental and Maternal fields, it is a practical hands-on course run by Ian Wright and Mary Bolinbrooke.
Potency, Perception and Presence within Craniosacral Therapy
This is a 3 day post-grad course that I took, focusing on building awareness, perception and practical skills around the potency of the human system and how to hold presence in order to promote deep healing within ourselves and our clients. Run by Ian Wright
Stillness and the Heart - working with the cardiovascular system
This is a 3 day post-grad course that I took, focusing on anatomy and physiology of how the heart develops and works from the moment we are conceived, and how the cardiovascular system supplies and helps regulate the entire body.  And then how we come into relationship with that whole mechanism during Craniosacral Therapy. Run by Ian Wright
Potency, Light and the Central Nervous System
This is a 3 day post-grad course that I took, focusing on anatomy and physiology of the central nervous system, what is underlying the "power" of this system and how it relates to the human condition and how we operate as a whole. And then how we interact with that system during Craniosacral Therapy. Run by Ian Wright
Working with stillness and the development and deepening of craniosacral palpation in the biodynamic field
This is a one day post-grad course that I took, covering intensive and deep hands-on practical work focusing on how we can increase and refine our perception of stillness and how that relates to health of the entire system and healing mechanism. Run by Mary Bolinbrooke.
Refining palpatory awareness in the biodynamic craniosacral field with the exploration of the cardiovascular tree
This is a one day post-grad course that I took, covering intensive and deep hands-on practical work focusing on how we can increase and refine our perception of the heart and entire cardiovascular system and how it extends through 60,000 miles of arteries and veins, and how this relates to our core health. Run by Mary Bolinbrooke.
Tutor at CTET School, London
I am currently a tutor at CTET Craniosacral Therapy Education Trust for the 2 year Practitioner training course. I started off looking after international and remote students online, and am now a tutor which involves being present at 11x 4-5day seminars in London, helping students with their learning journey over 700 hours of study. This means working with and supervising students during practice sessions and helping guide them to understand, palpate and integrate the necessary elements in order for them to graduate at the end of the course. I also have a group of 6 students for whom I discuss and mark their home study, run tutor group meetings, and am available to answer questions and discuss craniosacral topics outside of the seminars. This is varied and interesting work and is a great environment to extend and grow my own learning journey with craniosacral therapy.
